Life's Short - Eternity is forever
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
Mark 8:36-37 NIV
Jesus said these words, and they hit hard when you think about how we live today. It's like no matter where you turn, in work, the shops, the Radio, TV, there's someone telling you that you gotta get this or that to be happy and complete! More gadgets, more things, more money, more likes, more fame, more stuff, more, more, more!!!!
it's so easy to get caught up in rat race and the hustle for more, thinking that if we just had a little more, we'd have finally made it, we'd be someone, we'd be happy and content, and that would do us, right? NO!
But heres the thing; life's short, and eternity, well it's forever!
Pause for a moment and think; imagine spending your whole life chasing after things that don't really last; things like the latest phone, that big-paying job, or it might even be social media fame! Sure, these things might feel good at first, but if your soul isn't part of the deal, you're likely to end up feeling empty! No matter what you've achieved or acquired, it's like trying to fill a bucket that's got a big hole at the bottom; as fast as you pour the stuff in, the faster it runs out!
But here's the kicker, it's doesn't work like that with God! when you invite Him into your life, that's when you get to feel truly complete.
But, if you lose your soul, that the biggest loss you'll ever make! for your soul is priceless, jsut as Jesus asks, 'what can you give in exchange for it?' Nothing, because it's priceless, your soul isn't some abstract thing. It's what connects us to what really matters and gives us real purpose; for it can connect us to pure love; namely the Divine! Thats what happens when you trust in Jesus as your Saviour!
Think about it, if you give up your soul chasing after worldly stuff, you're trading something that's priceless for temporary fleeting pleasures that tarnish and fade in a split second! And when your souls lost, it's gone forever!
Picture someone who's worked themselves to the bone just to get ahead. For sure no one on their deathbed has ever said 'I wish i'd spent more time in work' Sadly people like this are usually filled with remorse because they didnt spend more time with loved ones, and God. Instead in their final moments they feel empty and alone.
All of us might long for stuff, we might even love the stuff we've acumulated, but understand this, it can never love you back! You can't find true relationships with stuff! So, ask yourself 'is stuff' worth loosing your soul for?
And heres the truth: 'Life is short - Eternity is Forever' The choices we make today about what we chase after matter! if we focus our time and energy on temporary things, we risk loosing what's truly eternal. But if we chase a relationship with Jesus, invest the time we have now in loving God and our neighbour, then through the power of His love, kindness, integrity, and faith, we will gain eternal life with the Father!
In the end, for all of us it's about remembering what's really of value. Don't let the rush for more distract you from what's most important; your soul! Because when you time here is done, that's what you take with you, and honestly, that's the one thing worth guarding with your life!
Have a great week, and God bless,
Trev.
