Living Temples
'Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?'
1st Corinthians 3:16
Your Identity is a Sacred Space!
The Apostle Paul doesn't say, ‘You might become a temple.’ He says, ‘You are a temple'. Right now, not when you get your act together. Not when you achieve spiritual perfection. No, now!
Most likely, just like the rest of us, you’re a 'fixer-upper' that God’s Spirit has moved into. A "fixer-upper" project that He turns into a sacred, consecrated space; and that space is you!
You are not a rental. This isn't some temporary arrangement, no way! The Spirit has taken up permanent residence!
You are now a dwelling place that the God of the universe has chosen to make His home. Let that sink in, and when you wake in the morning, remind yourself,
"I'm a sacred space. The Spirit of God lives in me."
Let that truth shape your choices, your words, and how you see yourself every day!
Collective Holiness, We're in This Together
While this verse speaks very powerfully to the individual, we need to remember that Paul is writing to the church in Corinth, And In the original Greek, "you" is plural. So he's telling the Corinthian community: "You all, together, are God's temple."
The Church is like a living mosaic with each believer a unique, irreplaceable piece. Together, we form the beautiful dwelling place of God.
Unity matters. You can't build a temple with pieces that refuse to fit together. Our call to love, forgive, and serve isn't just a nice thing to do; it's essential to the structure.
Your presence matters. If you think, "They won't miss me this morning’ you're wrong, because we are all living stones. So if you’re not present, the temple is incomplete!
Ask yourself, how am I contributing to the health and unity of my spiritual family? Knowing that your presence, your gifts, and your encouragement are vital building materials.
Keep on top of the Maintenance
In our own homes, we don't ignore leaks or let rubbish pile up in the kitchen. We maintain them with care and respect, and so it should be with our lives.
So, audit what you let in. The "content" that you allow to fill the rooms of your mind and heart, and ask yourself, does this stuff honour the main Resident?
Check for "renovations" needed. Are there habits, thoughts, or relationships that are damaging the walls and staining the carpets?
Celebrate the beauty of what you have. Maintenance isn't just about fixing what's broken. It's about polishing the beautiful things already there, your gifts, your compassion, and your joy.
So, do a quick, honest "temple check" this week. Ask the Holy Spirit: "what needs cleaning, repair, or celebration in my life?"
Remember!
You’re not an accident. You are not ordinary. You are a walking, talking, breathing temple of the living God. Your life is sacred ground.
So live like it.
Speak like it.
Love like it.
Because the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead doesn't just visit on Sundays.
He has moved in for good, and that changes everything!
Have a great week, and God bless,
Trev.
