Fancy a swim?
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:17b-19
Here Paul prays that we can ‘grasp the ungraspable’ He prays that we would have the mental capacity to ‘grasp’ the dimensions of Christ’s love. Its width, length, height, and depth!
These words reminds me so much of the children’s hymn 'Our God is a great big God', which goes, he's higher than a skyscraper, and deeper than a submarine,,,!
Perhaps Pauls words were the hymn writers inspiration, who knows! But when each of us comes to know Christ, we discover that his love is so wide that it includes every outcast! that it’s long enough that it lasts from eternity to eternity! that it’s high enough to reach heaven’s throne! and it’s deep enough to heal our deepest shame!
And then he adds, “know this love that surpasses knowledge.”
Well, for me God’s love isn’t some equation or dimensional factoid to be learnt!,
No, it’s something to be experienced, more like an infinite ocean that's available for us to dive into, immerse ourselves in, swim in its warm waters, splashing and reveling, as we soak until our hard hide's have been softened so that we can receive the full measure of his love!
